Evolution/Revolution:
A Century of Modern Seating
A single object like a chair can both crystallize a
designer's philosophy and express the spirit of the
times. Gustav Stickley and Marcel Breuer, among others,
produced chairs that not only encapsulated their aesthetic
vision but also were design manifestos in their own
right. This exhibition traces the period from 1849 to
1946.
